The Swissporarena is ready for the future: the modernization of the LED walls is an important step in the technical development of the stadium. The renovation not only provides a visual upgrade, but also ensures reliable operation for future events - including the UEFA Women's EURO 2025.
The Swissporarena in Lucerne is the home ground of FC Lucerne and also the venue for the UEFA Women's EURO 2025. The previous LED displays had been in use since 2011 and had reached the end of their life cycle. The LED walls were replaced to ensure the quality and operational reliability of the stadium technology.
The replacement was carried out in two stages. The LED wall on the south side was installed in January 2025 and the second LED wall on the north side was installed in March 2025. This involved converting the LED walls on the ground and lifting them onto the stadium roof.
Technical specifications of the new LED walls
The outdoor LED screens usurface III from Unilumin have been specially developed for demanding outdoor use and meet the highest requirements in terms of image quality, robustness and ease of maintenance thanks to the new LED technology.
- Dimensions: 12.5 meters wide and 5 meters high, with a weight of about 5 tons.
- Resolution: 1,200 x 480 pixels, for clear and sharp images.
- Luminosity: 6,500 nits, for optimum images in daylight or changing conditions.
- Weather protection: IP65 protection class, resistant to rain, dust and temperature fluctuations.
- Power consumption: approx. 13kW, resulting in higher energy efficiency.
Thanks to the cooperation with Josef Meyer AG (metal construction substructure), Marechaux Elektro, Zimmermann Technik AG (construction of the electrical boxes), Brunner Transport (crane and transportation) and Düring Entsorgung (recycling of old material), the project was successfully completed.
