ASTRA Visitor Centre Wankdorf – Experience infrastructure
A multimedia space for orientation, dialogue and future perspectives
The new visitor centre of the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) in Bern's Wankdorf district focuses on one key objective: informing the public about current and planned major projects in the region in a transparent, understandable and effective manner.
The idea behind the centre was not only to convey information, but also to actively engage visitors. They should be able to understand how infrastructure is created, what challenges are involved and how these developments contribute to the mobility of the future.
Technology as a mediator between content and experience
Together with MEDIAVILLE, the partner responsible for content and exhibition concept, we at auviso were entrusted with the overall technical implementation, from planning to commissioning.
The focus was on developing a media system that can be used flexibly, is technically reliable and creates an immersive visitor experience. The three themed rooms are designed to take visitors on a guided journey. The content is deliberately modular in structure and can be continuously updated or expanded.
Highlights of the technical implementation:
• 270° projection in Room 3: Drei 8 x 4 Meter grosse Leinwände bilden eine Panoramaprojektion mit einer Gesamtauflösung von 12’240 × 2’160 Pixeln. Bespielt wird das System mit drei nativen 4K-HDR-Projektoren von Barco. Gezeigt wird unter anderem eine interaktive, grossformatige Karte der Schweiz, über die sich aktuelle Projekte multimedial erschliessen lassen.
• Immersive audio solution: A CODA Audio system was used to create a finely tuned sound environment that perfectly complements the visual effect.
• LED Wall A five-metre-wide, curved Unilumin LED wall (90°) visually expands the room and enables content to be conveyed in an intense manner.
• Central control & media server: The VERTEX media server provides a high-performance, future-proof solution that guarantees precise synchronisation of all content and easy operation.
In the context of a federal project, it was particularly important not only to deliver impressive technical performance, but also to work efficiently and conserve resources. The components selected are characterised by durability, ease of maintenance and operational reliability.
