A digital information system for the Zurich Children’s Hospital

The new University Children’s Hospital Zurich sets new standards in pediatric medicine. In cooperation with the client, we were able to implement a modern digital information system that offers orientation and support to patients, relatives and employees - a technical innovation in the service of well-being.

In this project, we installed around 70 Samsung professional displays, which were strategically divided into three main areas: patient distraction, public information screens and dashboards for staff. The patient distraction displays were installed in the treatment rooms of the Zurich University Children’s Hospital and show video content specifically tailored to children, creating a pleasant and soothing atmosphere. Thus, the technique helps to provide a positive and distracting environment for the young patient* during treatments.
In the public area of the children’s hospital, there are information screens that present current information about the hospital and its services to visitors and staff. The dashboards, in turn, provide medical staff with a real-time overview of operational operations, which supports patient care efficiency and facilitates the work of the entire team.
For the management of the content on the displays, the digital signage software ConnectSignage was used, which allows both manual and automated content and thus ensures maximum flexibility in the content processing. A total of around 60 licenses were activated for the children’s hospital to ensure smooth and individually customizable play-out of the content.
In just three months, we were able to realize this project and put the system into operation on time at the end of October 2024. With the new digital information system, we support the Zurich Children’s Hospital in its efforts to be up-to-date not only medically but also technologically and thus to meet the needs of patients* To optimally meet the needs of relatives and employees.
The system is complemented by a modern ticketing system installed in the patient pharmacy and at the reception. Through this system, patients*in and visitors draw tickets whose numbers are then displayed on displays and called up. This solution, provided by Qsome, ensures a clearly structured process and contributes to a stress-free stay.
In addition, 300 digital door signs were installed in the building, mainly in the areas ASS and LLF. These door signs show current room bookings that are managed directly via Microsoft Outlook. Thanks to the Joan solution, a seamless and user-friendly integration is ensured, which optimizes space utilization and facilitates organization.
We thank the Zurich Children’s Hospital for their trust and the opportunity to be part of this forward-looking project.
